nbkit-system - System NodeBrain Kit |
nbkit caboodle { start | stop | bounce } System |
The System NodeBrain Kit is used for custom system health
monitoring (host and application). It uses a framework provided by the Caboodle NodeBrain Kit,
nbkit-caboodle(7), designed to simplify the development of NodeBrain applications.
This kit supports common types of monitoring needed for a system or application. For example, it may be used to monitor processes, file system space, CPU utilization, network connectivity, and other elements unique to a particular application. This kit may be used to build stand-alone monitoring applications, but is also used within applications built from more specialized NodeBrain kits. The System NodeBrain Kit is not intended as a replacement for commercial products or other open source tools for system monitoring. There are many good tools available and we recommend that you select the best tools for your environment. See http://www.nodebrain.org for more information. |
This kit provides the System agent. There may be multiple System agents running on a server, each for a different caboodle, and perhaps running under different accounts. They are distinguished in a "ps -ef" commmand by the caboodle directory showing as an argument to nb(1). |
See nbkit-caboodle(7) and nbkit(1) for information on files used by NodeBrain kits. |
Work on the System NodeBrain Kit began in June of 2006. It is based on a tool developed in 1998 called the "System Monitor Kit", or "Sysmon". The NodeBrain program, nb(1), was first developed for Sysmon and then released as a single component in 2003 by the NodeBrain Open Source Project. NodeBrain kits were first released by the project in February of 2013. |
With prototype 0.8.x releases, you can expect to encounter bugs that are
unknown to the author.
Please report bugs by linking to the project page from the home page, http://www.nodebrain.org, or send email to <bugs@nodebrain.org>. |
